RE: Milgaard Windows and Doors, Seattle, WA - dissatisfied with door and customer service

While rebuilding our home in Seattle, WA, we purchased windows and doors from Milgaard Windows and Doors. One of our doors (a four panel wide french door) had several problems. Fist it was made as a slider rather than an opening door with hinges.

Then it was made correctly, but delays our project several weeks (this door is eight feet tall and twelve feet wide divided into four panels with the two center panels opening.) the door was installed by Milgaard people because my contractor had to move on to another house due to the delay.

Several weeks later Milgaard brought out the glass panels which they could not install because they were the wrong size. Again several weeks later, the correct glass panels were delivered and installed.

Later we find there is a nail coming through the primary door that opened and closed the most often. Milgaard replaces the door. A few months later we find the door to be drooping and not closing correctly. Milgaard comes out and has to order new hinges to replace. After several months Milgaard comes out again because of the hinges. They need to order hinges and have not been back since (Aug. 2000)

In September 2002, I called Milgaard to once again fix the problem and told them I was dissatisfied with the door and wanted it to be replaced. They sent out their service manager who said the door was installed incorrectly and my contractor would need to get involved.

My contractor has come out and is in agreement with me that my door is defective and also believes Milgaard should replace the door. I had asked Milgaard to a copy of the service records from this door and have not been able to obtain them.

At this point, I do not feel Milgaard makes a very good product on their hinged doors. I would like to have the large opening replaced with a slider of comparable materials.

Milgaard is not returning my calls.

Please help.
