RE: Brunton binoculars - unexpectedly high shipping costs

I purchased the Brunton binocular advertised for the sale price of $70 USD at http://www.brunton.com/closeouts.php?show_detail=13-F5066W

Since the BUY NOW link did not (and still does not) work, I phoned Brunton at 1-800-443-4871 to place my order, and was told there would be a $10 shipping & handling charge added to the sale price. Fair enough.

But upon delivery by UPS to my home in Canada, I was charged an extra and totally unexpected "Brokerage Amount" of $78.69 CDN. This extra shipping cost included GST & PST based on the $139 REGULAR PRICE of the binocular, instead of the $70 sale price that I paid.

Brunton was negligent in failing to tell me of the extra costs involved in acquiring this product. If I had known of these extra costs beforehand, I would not have purchased the product. Therefore, as compensation for their negligence, I am requesting that Brunton reimburse me an amount equal to the GST & PST charges I paid.

Further, I recommend that Brunton fix or replace their dysfunctional "PayPal" mechanism of online payment, and provide a system that calculates and displays the TOTAL cost of acquiring a product. This will allow consumers to make an informed decision on whether to proceed with the transaction. The website amazon.com provides an excellent example of how this is done.

Brunton's e-mail address is info@brunton.com
