In January 2002 we purchased five bridesmaid's dresses and a mother of the bride dress at Kaufman's Wedding World at the Fredericktowne Mall. When the order was placed we were told we had ample time to get the bridesmaid's dresses in time for the July 13, 2002, wedding. We were promised a June 1 delivery day.
At the same time I was measured and told I needed a dress several sizes larger than I normally wore. I protested their decision to order the larger size but was told the dress could be altered. The following day, after thinking about how big my dress was going to be, I called to cancel the order and they told me the order had been placed and could not be canceled. Assuming the company knew what they were doing I let the matter drop.On June 4 when I went for my first fitting I found my dress to be much too large and the bridesmaid's dresses not in yet. The store manager told me they were expected any day. The dress was pinned and alterations were discussed. The following week I went back again and only part of the alterations had been completed. Upon inquiring about the bridesmaid's dresses I was told once again they would be in any day. This was the same story they told both my daughter and me until the end of June.
On Thursday, June 27, we went to Kaufman's to cancel our order with the intentions of buying something off the rack at another Bridal Shop. We were not received very well by the manager of the store and told the order could not be canceled.
While at the store another bride, whose wedding was the week after my daughters, was trying to cancel her order for bridesmaids dresses since they were not in yet, and at the same time a bride was in trying on her dress that the store had just gotten in on Wednesday and her wedding was that Saturday.Finally on July 1 we were notified that the bridesmaid's dresses were in the warehouse and expected at the store the next day. We had four girls in the wedding party that lived out of state and less than two weeks to get the dresses shipped to them and altered. Because of the tight schedule two of the girls needed to get their dresses altered at Kaufman's.
The alteration on the girl's dresses was unprofessional and looked so bad that two days before the wedding we had to take the dresses to an independent seamstress to fix what Kaufman's had done.
The clincher to this story is my dress that I was told was "done" and ready to be picked up had puckers in the sleeves, hemmed with white thread, (blue dress) missing beads, uneven shoulders, four inch seams, and a puckered hem on the lining that looked like an elastic waist band had been sewn in. The dress could not be worn and I had to go out and buy another dress for my daughter's wedding.After many complaints to the Frederick store getting me nowhere, I have called, emailed and written to Mrs.Kaufman asking her for some response to my complaints and have heard nothing from her either.
