Complaint Repair received the following consumer message on August 12, 2003:

RE: Mag Innovision
17" Monitor - made by Proview Technology - within 6 months developed
whining sound - still under warranty, but not fixed by Proview Technology
Purchased a new 17" Mag Innovision monitor 770FS through Best Buy.
Within 6 months it developed an unbearable high pitched whine. Sent it
back to Proview Technology, 801 Sentous Street, City of Industry, CA 91748
RMA# WRRCI65764. Even though it was under warantee, Proview insisted it
was OK and would not fix or replace the monitor. Cost me a bundle to mail
it from the East Coast to California.
I also had to pay a diagnostic fee before I got the monitor back. Sure
enough, same problem as soon as I plugged it in. Now a $150 (minus rebate)
monitor sits in a box in my attic. I cannot even sell it second hand due
to the noise issue. Customer service and tech support from Mag was a huge
let down. 5 times they promised to call me back but never did. They would
not budge on repairs or even waiving the diagnostic fee.
Beware buying from Mag, even with a seemingly good rebate. Best Buy is
useless. Unless you pay for an extended warantee they do not even want
to talk to you. In this case it wouldn't have helped anyway.
I have purchased a comparably priced monitor through Outpost.com and am
completely pleased. In the past they have accepted merchandise returns
from me with no argument and even reinbursed my shipping costs.
