www.computerbooksdirect.comComplaint Information:
I joined the book club in April 2001. I purchased and paid for several books during the past year. I canceled the membership in March 2002 due to the following problems with the service: 1) defective book sent 2) wrong replacement sent for defective book 3) they did not pay for shipping for their mistakes 4) unwanted books were delivered to me.
I received e-mail from Blaine Treadway on 3/27/2002 indicating that my membership was canceled and that I would receive no more books.
Today, 4/29/2002, I received 3 books and saw that my credit card was charged $150 for the books.
It is my view that 1) this company is not at all organized and 2) they deliberately send books and charge credit cards hoping that customers will keep the books. Essentially, they have my credit card and are now charging it at will. I have demanded that they pay for the return of these books and remove my credit card from their system. I have not received a reply and am worried that they will continue to charge my credit card.
Desired Settlement:
1) They need to credit my credit card $150. That includes the price of the 3 books plus a $25 credit they applied towards these books. 2) They need to send a pre-paid postage card so I can send the books back to them at their expense. 3) They need to send a letter to me and my credit card company indicating that they've removed my credit card from their computers. I am no longer their customer so they should not have my credit card on file.
Sincerely,
Tim Dutcher
