Complaint Repair received the following consumer message on August 12, 2003:

phone service, UK - phone stolen while on vacation - 918 Pounds of charges
run up on stolen phone
I borrowed my son my mobile phone to take on holiday abroad so he could
keep in touch with me during his holiday.
The phone got stolen, it took him two days to contact me in england to
let me know but i immediatly contacted the phone company to let them know
they blocked the phone straight away. however during that two days the
phone had been used using something called roamin numbers? and i have
received abill of £918.00.
I have tried to contact 02 and can only speak to the general assistant
who says the bill has to be paid or a credit agency will get in touch
, it would be no good talking to a supervisor as they will say the same.
Just by looking at the pages of the bill must show the phone has been
misused.
I appreciate the company must get problems all the time but surely a little
compassion and understanding of the issue is not too much to ask
